(***Note: We are updating the graphics, blog headers, etc... we've given away in the past year to fit both the standard & outside Rain blogs. We'll post a link to the new versions soon.)
First I'd like to say "hi and welcome" to everyone who has joined The Art Of Marketing You group. As you can probably tell by the title, this group is about marketing.

The Art Of Marketing You is not a place to post recipes, vacation photos, philosophy, diet tips, property listings, local market reports, etc... To try and keep the group on topic and relevant to our members, we often delete off topic posts. For more details, see the Active Rain guidelines
The occasional off topic, fun post is cool, we all need/enjoy distractions from the day to day biz but I don't want this group to turn into something it wasn't intended to be. It's not Localism, it's not the comedy club and it's not spammer's paradise.

The most interesting, original, thought provoking, on topic posts will be featured in the group. This will give additional exposure to you, your ideas and your blog! We want quality, not quantity.
One well written, well thought out post will get you more attention and more readers/subscribers than off topic stuff!
With the help of our members & moderators, we try to keep the group focused, on topic, positive and useful to members of the real estate industry.
There are a lot of sharp cookies here in the Rain and a ton of very talented people willing to share their knowledge with us so... let's make the best of it.

We are all guests here on Active Rain, you are also a guest in this group. Please play nice with the other members. Our group is here to share your experience, to ask questions and to suggest ideas. Don't just be a reader, participate in whichever way you can. Active Rain has given us a wonderful gift, let's use it wisely!

If you'd like to participate in any of our upcoming marketing partnerships or to stay on top of all the new graphic goodies we'll be giving away, please subscribe to our blog using the button below...

You have said it so good. This entity is a gift to us all from Matt and everyone else that made/makes it possible.
BTW: I went to your website and love your work. MY mother is an artist, too. The type of art that you both do is one gift I have not been blessed with. The picture on the web link just makes one wonder and think. I could spend the day meditating over it. God Bless Wynne (WIN)
Hi Wynne and thanks for the nice comment about my work, much appreciated. I'm glad it connected with you somehow.
And yes I agree, we have been given a wonderful gift from AR, we just have to learn how to use it... growing pains, but as with most things in life, it will work itself out over time.
I'm late for the introduction - but thanks for the welcom! It's all about Marketing guys, and marti, you bring such a great and refreshing perspective.
Ines
Sorry if this is just for members. I am a Realtor of Canada (in fact I am Spanish), I am also a BA in Business and have Master's degree in Marketing so as you can see this is my favorite topic.
Just wanted to recommend this website since I think it is going to be a great tool of marketing for Realtors and other Real Estate professionals: www.housingmarketmedia.com
I have been working for a long time in getting my website in first places of search engines (a chalenge that I have acomplished) so when I knew about this new web, I wanted to recommended for internet marketing purposes.
Hope it helps...
Adios!
Patricia
Hola Ines... thanks for the compliemnt and welcome as well.
Don't forget to add the post you asked me about yesterday, you wrote a great review of the Realty Blogging book and that definitely fits in with the marketing category.
This comment is not about Groups. LOL...

Patricia... we can all learn a lot from each other so your thoughts and ideas about marketing are definitely welcomed here.
Hi TLW... my name is marti and I'm a chocoholic, whoops wrong group. Thanks for signing in. You are the queen of marketing. Just the way you've connected with so many people here on AR sets such a good example for us to follow.
Harper Team... welcome aboard, I see that you're already very prolific contributors. Thanks for sharing with the group and for the compliment as well.
Raman... welcome to you too, it's nice to see so many new faces here today.
I am going to just sit back, read, and learn for a while. I hope to be a contributor, but I am still a bit green around the "realtor gills." I joined because I think the "Art of Marketing You" is just essential to anyone in sales. Thanks for having me aboard!
Caron... thanks for stopping by. There are lots of smart cookies here on AR willing to share their knowledge & experience so I'm sure we'll all learn a lot.
Loreena... hi and welcome. Many of us here on AR are failry new to blogging so you'll feel right at home. It's a great place to learn and test the blogging waters. Nice to have you in our group.
Hi Marti
I will see what I have that will fit in here from previous blogs...would hate to think all that time I spent on Madison Avenue was spent only for shopping! LOL
Hi Marti!
I'm looking to expand my business exponentially in 2007, and I know that branding myself is going to play a huge role in accomplishing that. I'll be pouring over the group posts for ideas, and probably asking a good deal of questions. So, I'm tickled to find you!
btw, I've seen the name Garaughty in Ireland, but not here. . . are ye Irish, lad?
I'm glead to be here - both to learn and to give back. For example, I'd like to draw your attention to a post I wrote this morning called How ActiveRain Took me to Page 1 on Google in 15 Days or Less and you can too!
ActiveRain is one of those places that is a great away to market yourself.

In this business, whether you are a big fish or a small fish the best marketing is the word of mouth. Then when you get a client from this method it's you (yourself) that is the marketing. If you do a good job with the client you will get many refferals from him/her. However if you don't satisfy this client your reputation will lose some points and you will not get business from this client no more.
Only if you shall succeed with this method shall you do anything more expensive like radio ads, tv ads, buy expensive leads, etc, etc.
This is a great group.

Hi Everyone I just wanted to say you all have some great comments and that art work is to die for. Thanks for sharinig it.
I have been on the cutting edge of personal network marketing and it still amazes me that peoples sitll think they can sell anything without a personal relationship. I often ask mortgage, insurance and real estate professionals what kind of personal relationship they have with clients. I have some tell me that they e-mail a card every now and then, subscribe them to a monthly newsletter (never read by the way) and e-mail them constantly.
They are amazed that the more they send that crap the less business they actually do. How many times do you hear of an agent that will make thousands on commissions and never show up at the closing. Anybody ever watch "Wonderul Life" when the hero takes a bottle of wine to celebrate the new owners home? Thats personal relationship marketing. But it only begins there. It has to continue for years so there is a constant flow of good will. You become a member of the family because you stay in their lives.
My best friend in the RE business used to be called the Pot Roast Realtor. On the day you were moving in she would show up with pot roast (a great one by the way) becasue she knew you were not going to get a good meal that day. That is personal network marketing. Hell, I bought 3 houses from her just to get pot roast. She even let me use her membership in the exclusive country club for my wedding reception. That is personal network marketing.
Does anyone think I would ever entertain the Idea of going to someone else? Not with that pot roast at stake!
If any of you need help with understand personal network marketing pleae contact me. I would love to share some Ideas that work well for me.
Tom.
Hello all,
Just jumped into the group... and I have to say I'm thrilled to be here! It seems I came across the information just when I needed it-- I'm hoping to make leaps and bounds this year with my onine marketing, and this looks like just the place to trade great information. Thanks for the links to the tutorials above. I just ordered both "Realty Blogging" and "Real Estate Rainmaker: Guide to Online Marketing" as a result of the posts. Looking forward!
Best wishes,

The Art of Marketing You. What a most appropriate forum to share ideas. At the end of the day it is more about us as individuals and how we handle ourselves with others. I look forward to adding value to this area.
Thanks...

I am very happy to have found this. I am just back from Keller Williams Family reunion in Las Vegas and took a Branding seminar, but I want more!!!! This will fill the ticket. Thanks!
kathy
Marko... welcome to the group and for your feedback. You're right about the power of word of mouth marketing, not just for the exposure it brings but also for the credibility you get from others talking about and recommending you to people they trust.
Tami, Borino and Ray... welcome to you all as well, we look forward to your contributions.
Thomas... thanks for the very nice comment about my artwork and welcome to the group. I love your story about the Pot Roast Realtor, what a cool way to be remembered.
Sandi, Meg, Raman and Kathy welcome to all of you and I'm looking forward to reading your input in the Art Of Marketing You group.
Marti,
Where have you been? or where have I been?
Miss you, my night owl Buddy!
How is life treating you these days??

I'm looking forward to learning a Lot, and contributing where I can.

Marti-
Thank you for providing such valuable information. I look forward to learning alot and hopefully being able to contribute.
Thank you for having me. I look forward to reading more posts in this group. I look forward to building long relationships through the Marketing Tips on AR. And to be able to contribute where I can.
The Art of Marketing You is a subject that most agents have no concept. I see so many who promote their companies and then hope to go along for the ride. If they change companies (which many do) then they have to start over from square one.
By marketing YOU it doesn't matter where you hang your shingle, your message remains the same and you just get new business cards.
Hello,
What do I call you?
Nice to meet you and it is a pleasure to be posting in your group
Hi Marti,
Thanks and what a cool idea! I started working on my own branding just a few years ago (been in the biz 14 years - I think I started getting clear about this stuff at around year 11...slow learner!). I developed a first logo with NEBS (they're great) then reworked it with PRO STEP MARKETING and have had their help getting my branding going with postcards, flyers etc. Next step is onto my websites.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you all have to say on this interesting topic!!
Just dropping by to say hello! I joined a few weeks ago but haven't spent much time in here. I am starting the process of marketing myself for the first time. I know this is an on-going thing, but I have to get it kick-started. Look forward to reading and learning, and hopefully contributing something...
Have a great day!
Abby
So much info!
Look forward to sharing and learning here...

Mary, Abby & Troy... welcome to all of you, it's nice to see so many new faces in our group recently. Just a friendly reminder, please try to keep your posts in this group relavent to the topic of marketing. We're looking forward to reading and sharing your ideas.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and learn from your expertise.

Sarah... we were all newbies at some point and I'm glad you're here. We're all learning from each other.
Thanks for the really nice comment and I'm looking forward to reading your posts and feedback.
Hello Marti, I have been enjoying your posts and many others here! I can remember when computer print outs were one liners on what looked like punch cards! You were so kind to feature my blog about SEO. I am learning little by little and your teachings here are awesome. My reference to being in the Dark Ages of the WWW were not exaggerated. In the early 90's I remember hearing the term "surfing" for the first time in my life. I was talking to one of my clients with Texas Instruments who quipped that he had been surfing all day. The look on my face showed that I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He took pleasure in that! Another client took me into his TI cubicle and showed me how he was helping to create what was called a jpg! I remember being as fascinated about that as I was at the age of 5 when I saw color TV for the first time and a Disney cartoon came on. You've heard the saying that "whatever man can imagine...can happen!" Don't we know that! All this Marti, and I'm only 39! Thank you for all the quality information. Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie on AR, but I'm certainly glad to be here. I've been in Corporate Marketing for over 10 years, including a few years at a nationally-recognized ad agency. I'm just entering the real estate market though, so I'm not sure how much of my "corporate" knowledge is applicable here. For now, I'll just sit back and learn from you all. Hopefully, I'll be able to participate soon enough, though. I'm a Home Stager, by the way.
Nice to meet all of you!
Rebekah
all great and valid points! I'll admit i haven't been to the group often, but have seen some great stuff here just today along!

Okay, well...

I went to a great seminar on blogging and was told that its the greatest thing ever, so I decided I should figure it out. I got invited to AR, signed up and then was invited to this group.
I look forward to learning all I can on marketing. I'm only a year old in the RE game, so I'm still a sponge soaking up knowledge! Thanks in advance for being patient with me!
Thanks Marti! I think there are a lot of folks who weren't aware of some of these ettiquette issues. :)
All the best,

Hello,
My name is Della Lambert and I joined Active rain less than a month ago, so I am still learning the ropes. I have had a love for marketing ever since the French's mustard commercial with the animated sandwiches that wouldn't let the off brand in. I have my marketing degree from Ohio State University, and have been a licensed agent since 1992. I also instruct real estate classes at a local college and push personal marketing to all my students. I greatly look forward to all the wisdom out there and hope that some of my knowledge and ideas can be of use to you as well.
Hi, Marti,
I like your regular round-up of posts! I am looking forward to participating in the group and learning more.
Cheers,
Robin
Hello Everyone,
I just joined and feel this is the place for me to be. My name is Darren. I am a regional sales director for a national direct lender. I also am president of a foreclosure prevention company I started a few years ago. I've studied marketing for a good number of years mainly offline direct marketing.Still learning, refining etc..
I look forward to sharing strategies, information and ideas..
Greetings from Olympia Wa. I am very honored to be a part of this group! Like many of you, I'm a Realtor and Money Merge Account Consultant. This has become one of my best lead generating tools.
Not everyone needs to buy or sell a home at the time I need business, however, homeowners need to be educated about how to be more proactive in achieving equity in their home! I have found a solution that can take a 30 year mortgage and pay it off in 8 - 11 years -- without refinancing or changing your lifestyle!
Blogging is privilege and it's great to read about key concerns and share ideas in this rapidly changing world. Together we can achieve more! Elaine
Hi,

And eventually, I will remember to spell check every post!
Russell... hi, spelling is the least of my concerns. It's just a few members who keep adding way off topic content that we have to continually delete, just a waste of time. Some people just don't get it. Have a great weekend!

Debra... hi there, I know this group has a ton of info, if you need help finding anything, just ask. It's nice to have you here!
Just signed up, and can't post. What's up with that?
Mike... "can't post" is the default status of all new members, it cuts down on spammers. Your can post now!
Thanks. I'll be linking a piece I just put out on AR that might be of some interest to the subs.
Mike
Did I violate some rule with my last post on "Green"? What happened to it? Deleted I assume? If so, why? If it got moved, where?
Mike... re "Did I violate some rule with my last post on "Green"? What happened to it? Deleted I assume?"...
You posted comment spam(self-promotional links) in my post which is never a good idea either here on Active Rain or on the net in general. That's why it was deleted.
Ok, now I'm really confused. The title of this blog is The Art of Marketing you. So I posted a piece doing just that for comment and feedback. Instead, it got canned for a self promotion.
Help?
Mike... last time I'm responding to this topic. If you don't know what comment spam is, read...
The Ten Commandments of Commenting, Thou Shalt Not...
I think I have found AR Newbie Heaven! I guess I will be hanging out here for a few days to tap into all of these learning resources!

Brian... hi and welcome to the group, nice to have you here with us.
I am new to the area and I am interested in networking. We are very prompt and professional at what we do. We look forward to hearing from you and working with you.
Hmmm. This is good. Blogged EOT.
Clarence... hi and welcome aboard.
Marketing ourselves. What a topic. How do we present information that stands out & makes us appear more valuable that the other 99?
I've been doing some blogging out to the public lately as shown by the active rain elite & have been getting placement on the 1st page of Google in quite a few cases. Some other cases I've found my blogs on pages 2-4 & sometimes mixed into a localizm page. I have not seen any results yet, but its a start. Oh wait, I did get one call from somebody about 5 months out, so I'll keep in touch.
I've also been reading about some agents who are having some good success in marketing themselves in Facebook. There are supposed to be 200 million people on Facebook, wow that's a lot of people. Anybody have any positive experience with getting any deals from marketing themselves on Facebook? Just wondering, sounds like a possibility. Let's turn this group into a gold mine.
Great Group
THANKS!!!
